Short-lived p-nuclides in the early solar system and implications on the nucleosynthetic role of X-ray binaries

چکیده
The data available for short-lived p-nuclides are used in an open nonlinear model of the chemical evolution of the Galaxy in order to discuss the origin of extinct radionuclides, the stellar sources of p-nuclides, and the chronology of solar system formation. It is concluded that the observed abundances of Tc, Tc, Nb, and Sm in the early solar system are consistent with nucleosynthesis in type II supernovae during continuous chemical evolution of the Galaxy and a subsequent short isolation of the presolar molecular cloud from fresh nucleosynthetic inputs. However, further work on supernova models is needed before p-radionuclides will comprise reliable cosmochronometers. Despite these limitations, we argue that niobium-92 can be used to test whether the rp-process contributed to the synthesis of light p-nuclides in the Mo-Ru region.

THE Cs-Ba CHRONOMETER AND THE ORIGIN OF EXTINCT NUCLIDES IN THE SOLAR
Introduction: A number of now extinct shortlived nuclides, with half-lives ranging from ~10 (Ca) to 10 years (Sm), were present in the early Solar System and provide constraints on chronometry, nucleosynthetic sources of early Solar System materials and provide a tool for identifying the environment where the Solar System formed (such as isolated star formation versus formation in a cluster of ...
متن کاملBayes’ Theorem and Early Solar Short-lived Radionuclides: the Case for an Unexceptional Origin for the Solar System
The presence of excesses of short-lived radionuclides in the early solar system evidenced in meteorites has been taken as testament to close encounters with exotic nucleosynthetic sources, including supernovae or AGB stars. An analysis of the likelihoods associated with different sources of these extinct nuclides in the early solar system indicates that, rather than being exotic, their abundanc...
متن کاملGalactic Chemical Evolution and the Abundances of Short-lived Radio- Nuclides Inherited by the Solar System from the Interstellar Medium
Introduction: In order to understand the origin of the short-lived radionuclides (SLRs) in the early solar system, it is necessary to have a clear, astrophysically based picture of galactic chemical evolution and the resulting SLR abundances in the interstellar medium (ISM). A discussion of the origin of the SLRs in the early solar system, including a detailed model of galactic chemical evoluti...
متن کاملForty Years of X-Ray Binaries
In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...
متن کاملSearching for Extinct Chlorine-36 in Enstatite Chondrites: New Constraints on the Distribution of Short-lived Nuclides in the Solar Nebula
Introduction: The origin of short-lived nuclides in the solar nebula is a long standing controversial issue. There are two major explanations: injection from neighboring supernovae or AGB stars [1-3], or in situ irradiation of nebular dust and gas by solar energetic particles (SEP) [4-7]. The distribution of short-lived nuclides in the solar nebula is a key test of these models. Unlike
